According to British intelligence, Russia used Iranian-made drones for the first time in the war in Ukraine. “Russia is almost certainly increasing its arms purchases from other heavily sanctioned countries such as Iran and North Korea while its own supplies are running out,” intelligence agencies said in the daily report.
Ukraine reported the downing (pictured below) of one of the drones described on Tuesday. The country, meanwhile, has total control of more than 4,000 square kilometers of territory recaptured from Russian forces. The country is also stabilizing its control of another 4,000 square kilometers, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his daily video address.
However, Ukrainian officials point out that it is important to distinguish between conquering territory and ensuring the complete security of that territory. 4000 square kilometers roughly corresponds to the size of Burgenland.
Ukrainian offensive on Luhansk planned?
Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych also promised an offensive in the eastern province of Luhansk. “There is now an attack on Lyman and there could be pressure on Siversk,” Arestovych said in a video on YouTube, referring to the two cities.
He enters a bitter fight for the city of Svatowo, because he thinks that Russia has stationed supply depots there. “And that’s what they fear most – that we take Lyman and then move on to Lysychansk and Sievarodonetsk. Then they would be cut off from Svatowo,” Arestovych said.
Denis Puschilin, head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, explains in a video contribution that Lyman is still in their hands. “The situation has stabilized. The enemy is of course trying to advance in small groups, but the (Russian-led) Allied forces repulse them completely.”
