Bomb threat at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts: A package exploded there Tuesday night when an employee tried to open it. He is said to have suffered a minor hand injury. Parts of the university campus have been evacuated, police said.
In addition to the police, who were on site with an explosive ordnance disposal service, the Boston Fire Department and ambulance personnel were also present. The private university campus was cordoned off. There was initially no information about the possible background of the explosion. According to US media, the harmless service also investigated another suspicious package that was found in the Museum of Fine Arts near the university.
Virtual Reality and Facebook warning
According to local media, the police found an anonymous letter mentioning virtual reality and Facebook. The letter also warns against collaborating with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, law enforcement officials at ABC News said.
Police responded just before 7:30 p.m. and the university ordered its students, who had gathered for an evening journalism class at the university’s Holmes Hall in downtown Boston, to evacuate the building.
TV station WCVB-TV reported that one of its reporters, Mike Beaudet, was teaching there at the time. He said it had been evacuated, but neither he nor his students heard an explosion.
