“This is my country!” – Racism scandal during police operation in Berlin

Date:

Berlin police are investigating within their own ranks after one of their officers insulted and threatened a Syrian couple with xenophobic slogans during an operation. Images of the operation, which left-wing politician Ferat Kocak shared on Twitter on Tuesday, show the heated atmosphere in the couple’s apartment. “This is my country and you are a guest here!” the policeman shouts when the woman gets angry about the operation against her husband.

“This is our apartment, you hit my husband,” replies the woman, against whom a dangerous speech was given, according to German media. There was apparently a warrant for the arrest of the 30-year-old man for fraudulently obtaining benefits. The “Berliner Zeitung” writes about several journeys by public transport without a valid ticket. When the Syrian resisted, he was pushed to the ground and handcuffed. This completely escalated the situation.

‘Shut up, don’t touch me. I’m taking you to jail!” the police officer threatens the 28-year-old woman. The man, who is guarded by a colleague, screams furiously: “Don’t talk to my wife like that.” A children’s cry can be heard in the background. Apparently the scenes that happened the week before were filmed by one of their kids.

In the end it concerned an outstanding amount of 750 euros
The press release of the Berlin police states that the situation has subsequently calmed down and that the arrest warrant has been “settled” after payment of an outstanding amount of 750 euros. Moments later, the couple filed a complaint with the nearest police station and also showed the evidence video. Bodo Pfalzgraf, Berlin’s head of the German police union, emphasized to the “Berliner Zeitung”: “With such video recordings, the facts should always be checked very carefully. Because the course of the entire event is usually different afterwards.”

The officer involved had been transferred to the station, the Berlin police said on Wednesday. It was also said: “Further legal consequences will follow.” Left-wing politician Kocak demands that the colleague of the transferred official also be prosecuted. This did not stop his comrade from his actions, nor did he later report it to his superiors.
