A mass grave has been found in the Ukrainian city of Izyum. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the investigation has started and the first results are expected on Friday.
“Russia is leaving death everywhere and must be held accountable for it,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his daily video address on Thursday evening. He did not yet give details about the mass grave in Izyum. Izyum is one of the main bases of the occupying forces and was only recently recaptured by the Ukrainian army, according to social media.
Tactical retreat or defeat?
For its part, the Russian army had announced its withdrawal from Izyum and Balakliya. However, the Defense Ministry in Moscow spoke of a “regrouping” and that the withdrawal of troops was just another step in the “liberation” of the Donbass region.
According to Selenskyj, investigations into the mass grave are already underway and the first findings should be available Friday.
