Immediately before the start of the autumn wage round, the ÖGB mobilized in the fight against inflation. The union federation is organizing demonstrations in all states on Saturday afternoon, demanding “prices down”. SPÖ president Pamela Rendi-Wagner will also be present at the march in Vienna.
With the exception of Styria, the rallies take place all over the respective provincial capital. In Styria they avoid the “Aufsteirern” in Graz and meet in Bruck ad Mur, where the deputy SPÖ club boss Jörg Leichtfried will also be present.
ÖGB president Wolfgang Katzian speaks, as does AK boss Renate Anderl in Vienna. PRO-GE and FSG president Rainer Wimmer will also appear in the federal capital, GPA boss Barbara Teiber in St. Pölten.
Van der Bellen supports ‘GB concerns’
The ÖGB received support from the highest political authority just before the start of its large-scale anti-inflation demonstrations scheduled for Saturday afternoon. Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen said on Twitter that he supports the concerns of the rallies.
The rampant inflation and its consequences put many workers under “enormous pressure”, stressed the Federal President: “Just as we intervene as a community to regulate energy prices, we must also create social security against inflation”.
Right-wing extremists and corona deniers have also announced themselves at the demonstrations. The ÖGB has clearly distanced itself from these groups in advance and emphasized close cooperation with the board.
