On an American holiday island – refugee transport has police aftermath

Date:

The unannounced flight that brought refugees to the American vacation island of Martha’s Vineyard now has a police aftermath. A Texas sheriff announced an investigation into the case. Laws may have been broken, he said Monday (local time).

“We think there is criminal activity here. I believe someone came from outside our state and preyed on these people and lured them with promises of a better life,” said Javier Salazar, Democratic Bexar County Police Commissioner. He did not mention which laws would have been broken. Specifically, 48 refugees would have been tempted to stay in a hotel for several days.

Last week, they were even flown unannounced to the island of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, which is known as an upscale beach town. They had flown to the island from the US state of Texas via Florida. Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, who is in charge of the transportation, claimed the fugitives were chosen because they originally planned to get to Florida from Texas. In the American media that a number of people did not know where they were actually being taken.

Criticism: Political Campaign
The Bexar County police chief spoke of a “political campaign where things can get out of hand.” It is disturbing when people’s lives are played with. The US government has previously been sharply critical of DeSantis. The governor, in turn, had announced that further measures had to be taken to transport refugees.

Other Republican governors had also recently had refugees transported to democratic regions of the country. They disagree with the migration policies under Democratic US President Joe Biden.
