Despite the sad reason for his trip to London for Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had a good time at a bar over the weekend and even performed the Queen’s song “Bohemian Rhapsody.” This caused some irritation on social media.
A video circulated on Twitter in which a casually dressed Trudeau sings the hit with his whole throat and body to the accompaniment of the piano. The video was shot in a London hotel bar on Saturday night, according to the BBC. A spokesman for Trudeau’s office confirmed the musical performance, the report said.
The Prime Minister spent the evening with the Canadian delegation, including musician Gregory Charles. He played the piano in the hotel lobby, after which members of the delegation – including the Prime Minister – joined in.
Ex-ambassador: ‘He has to grow up’
A former Canadian ambassador to Israel, Vivian Bercovici, wrote on Twitter that such behavior was inappropriate during the period of mourning for the Queen, who was also the head of state in Canada: “This isn’t about Justin. But he should grow up.” While some endorsed her criticism, others sympathized with Trudeau, music journalist Adam Feibel joked that Trudeau’s version of “Bohemian Rhapsody” was in no way disrespectful to the late Queen, but rather to the band Queen.
