Ukrainian troops have captured an intact Russian T-90M. Apparently the main battle tank was abandoned in haste by the crew. According to the Ukrainian defense ministry, the war machine fell into the hands of troops in the Kharkov region in the east of the country. Military experts suspect the tank is now being evaluated by Ukraine’s NATO allies to get more information about the equipment of the troops loyal to Moscow.
The Twitter account of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry reacted to the welcome find with biting sarcasm on Sunday evening: “The latest Russian tank T-90 was found in perfect condition in the Kharkov region. The owner must report to the Ukrainian army. Please identify yourself with a white flag,” it tweeted. The crew of three is believed to have left the high-tech tank after it lost a track. The war equipment was later towed by a Ukrainian tank.
Tanks rarely used
The T-90M is considered the most technically advanced main battle tank in the arsenal of the Russian Armed Forces. It comes from the gunsmiths of the Russian arms company Uralvagonzavod. The tank was rarely used during the Russian invasion. It is estimated that only about 100 such battle tanks were in service with the Russians when the war of aggression began in February.
This is how powerful the Russian T-90 tank is:
Several photos of the tank have been posted online, including from the inside. The Internet medium “The War Zone” indicates that the new target acquisition system PNM-T is on display. This system is the result of efforts by the Russian defense industry to no longer depend on Western manufacturers for components. Since the annexation of Crimea in 2014, Russia has been hit by sanctions that make it more difficult to get Western technology. The sanctions mainly affected tank production.
Ukrainian troops advance towards Luhansk
Meanwhile, buoyed by recent battlefield successes, Ukrainian forces are pushing through. Your troops are advancing further east into areas recently abandoned by Russian soldiers. Ukrainian governor of the Luhansk region, Serhiy Hajday, said Ukraine is preparing to recapture the entire oblast. “The enemy is preparing its defense. So we won’t just drop in,” he wrote on Telegram.
“The occupiers are clearly in panic,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his daily televised speech late Monday night. He stressed that speed is now important to secure the liberated areas and restore normal daily life there. On Tuesday, the Russian news agency TASS reported an attack on a Russian-occupied city in the Luhansk region that killed seven people.
Russia moves submarines
Russia has withdrawn its Kilo-class submarines from the Ukraine-annexed Crimea peninsula on the Black Sea due to the threat of Ukrainian attacks, British intelligence reports. The ships of the Black Sea fleet had been moved from their home port of Sevastopol to the southern Russian port of Novorossiysk, it said in London. The Kilo class are conventionally powered submarines, mostly from the 1980s. The reason for the transfer is most likely that Ukraine is now able to carry out attacks over greater distances. In the past two months, the fleet headquarters and main airfield have been attacked.
