Filthy attempt at fraud – false prosecutor demands 80,000 euros bail

A 55-year-old woman in Innsbruck was targeted by a brutal con man on Tuesday: The stranger posed as a prosecutor on the phone, claimed her daughter was in custody and demanded tens of thousands of euros in bail. Thanks to the daughter, the handing over of the money was just prevented at the last minute. In another case, an acquaintance of the victim (88) became the rescuer.

Shortly before 2 p.m., the woman from Innsbruck received a call from the alleged prosecutor. The stranger pretended to the 55-year-old that her daughter had caused a traffic accident that killed one person. Now the daughter is in custody and the mother has been asked to pay a bail of 80,000 euros.

But that didn’t happen, the money transfer could literally be prevented at the last minute. “Because the daughter had reported to the 55-year-old shortly before the agreed transfer,” said the detectives. The attempted fraud was discovered. There is no trace of the perpetrator or the people behind it.

Older woman also targeted by scammers
The same happened on Tuesday to an 88-year-old from Innsbruck. The retiree was approached by an alleged policewoman. In this case too, the daughter is said to have caused a fatal accident. The unknown demanded 60,000 euros to save the alleged driver of the accident six months in prison.

“Because the woman could not collect the money, she contacted two friends and asked them to help her. An acquaintance then advised her to file a report with the police,” the real investigators describe. was told that she had been the victim of an attempted fraud.
