Borrell urgently calls on the Twenty-seven to respond to the Kremlin

The High Representative of the European Union’s diplomacy has asked the international community to “respond” to Russia’s latest moves

The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, has announced that an emergency meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Twenty-seven will be convened for this Wednesday in response to the “serious escalation” in Russia after its President Vladimir Putin announced the mobilization of 300,000 reservists.

The highest representative of European diplomacy has convened a press conference in New York – where he will attend a series of events in the context of the 77th United Nations General Assembly – to ask the international community to “respond” to the latest movements of Putin, whom he accused of putting the Twenty-seven in “an unacceptable situation” hours before, said after confirming that nuclear threats pose “a real danger to everyone”, to which the international community “must react” and that possible new sanctions brought forward against Russia will be studied.

“We are not intimidated by them. The international community must respond,” said Borrell, referring to the latest maneuvers by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, pointing out that the Foreign Ministers of the Twenty-seven will negotiate this Wednesday on how to handle the situation. in this sense, without prejudice to the possible outcome of the emergency session, the highest representative of European diplomacy has chosen to “press” on the “economic and individual” sanctions adopted so far by the European Union.

However, he clarified that the European Union “is not combative” and “will not participate in the war”. “We’re not going to join the war, we’re just supporting Ukraine, which is already a pretty important effort,” he said. Likewise, Borrell has chosen to “do political pedagogy” to explain the consequences of the war, the origin of the global economic crisis. “Ukraine is being bombarded with missiles and the rest of the world is being bombarded by the rise in the price of electricity and food.”

“We must start a narrative war, which we will not win overnight,” acknowledged Borrell, who has placed special emphasis on disclosing that the cause of the rise in the cost of living “is not sanctions ( on Russia), it is the war itself. Finally, he warned that the possibility of a nuclear accident “is not ruled out”, all the more so when Putin himself has threatened to use all his capacity. “If someone talks about ‘all’ his , it also includes nuclear,” Borrell warned.
