The Czech Republic does not grant refuge to Russians who want to refuse military service in Ukraine. Anyone who does not want to fulfill their obligations to their own state does not yet meet the conditions to obtain a humanitarian visa.
Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky told the CTK bureau on Thursday that he understands Russians are fleeing the “increasingly desperate decisions” of their President Vladimir Putin.
The Czech Republic has not issued regular new visas to Russian citizens for months. There are few exceptions, for example for close relatives of EU citizens.
Against the background of the months-long war of aggression against Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for partial mobilization (see video above). Now 300,000 reservists have to be called up for the Russian army.
EU seeks solutions for fleeing Russians
The first family fathers have already been called up and more and more able-bodied men are leaving the country. The European Union is now also addressing the question of how to deal with those fleeing war. Austria must also prepare for asylum seekers. For example, after a partial mobilization, Finland reported an increased number of arrivals from Russia.
