An iron still heated should have been the reason for an apartment fire in Leonding (Upper Austria) on Wednesday afternoon. Mother and the three children were able to get to safety in time. However, domestic cat “Onyx” died in the flames.
A 37-year-old from Leonding was at home and in the living room with her three children ironing around 5.10 pm on Thursday. When she was done, she pulled the plug and left the room.
Shortly afterwards, the still-heated iron fell to the floor and probably lit a living room carpet there. When the woman noticed the heavy smoke, she immediately left the house with her children. Emergency services were alerted at around 5:15 p.m.
Mother came to the hospital
The Hart, Leonding and Rufling fire brigade quickly had the fire under control, but the living room was completely burned out. Unfortunately, the cat died in the process. Otherwise no one should have been injured. The 37-year-old was nevertheless taken to Kepler University Hospital in Linz for further clarification.
