A previously unknown man who tried to set fire to a cinema in the German city of Krefeld (North Rhine-Westphalia) on Thursday evening was shot and injured by police.
The dramatic scenes took place shortly before 8 p.m. Firearms were used in full view of moviegoers. Shortly before, the suspect allegedly set fires in three other places. According to police, a vehicle and a house near the train station were hit.

The 38-year-old tried to start a fire in the cinema foyer. But the alerted police officers were able to prevent this through their efforts. The man shot was taken to hospital where he continues to receive medical treatment. According to the police, the suspect is a Krefeld man with Iraqi nationality.
