A fatal accident occurred on Thursday at a former gold mine in the US state of Colorado, which is now used as a tourist attraction. One person died due to a technical defect in an elevator. Four people were injured. A group of tourists were trapped in the mine for hours.
According to the initial findings, there would be mechanical damage to the elevator that takes visitors to the depths. The elevator suddenly got stuck. According to Sheriff Jason Mikesell, the accident occurred at a depth of approximately 500 feet.
The prisoners had enough water
One person was killed and four others were slightly injured. The further circumstances were not explained. A group of twelve people – eleven adult tourists and a guide – were stuck at a depth of 300 meters for about six hours after the malfunction.
According to American media, the prisoners were in constant contact with rescuers via radio. There was also plenty of water available.
The Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine near Cripple Creek, opened in the 19th century and closed in the 1960s, offers tours. According to police, both the tour areas and the elevator must be inspected daily and assessed for safety for visitors. It is not known whether this actually happened.
