The headquarters for the planned NATO operation to coordinate arms deliveries and training activities for the Ukrainian armed forces will be located in Germany.
As the German news agency dpa learned from alliance circles on Friday, Wiesbaden is planned as a location.
Only on Wednesday did NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announce that the Western defense alliance wanted to take over the coordination of arms deliveries to Ukraine.
The measure is seen as an attempt to reduce dependence on American political decisions. The background is Donald Trump’s candidacy for president; Trump is skeptical about aid to Ukraine.
But diplomats acknowledged that supplying Ukraine under NATO command could have only a limited effect because the US is the dominant power within NATO and supplies the majority of weapons to Ukraine.
