Car drove into crowd during New Year’s Eve celebration, killing ten in New Orleans

At least 10 people were killed and 30 were injured when a vehicle plowed into a crowd during New Year’s celebrations in New Orleans.

The incident is said to have taken place in the popular French Quarter. “I just saw a truck hit everyone on the left side of the sidewalk in Bourbon,” 22-year-old Kevin Garcia told CNN. “A body flew towards me,” said the eyewitness, who also claims to have heard shots.

As a CBS reporter reported, after the fatal ride, the driver got out and started shooting. Police then returned fire.

Ten people were killed and 30 injured in New Orleans, according to the city’s official emergency management agency, NOLA Ready. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landray spoke on X about a “terrible act of violence.” He called on the population to avoid the affected area.
