“Data Collected” – FSB Secret Service: Ukrainian Spy Arrested

Date:

According to the FSB, the secret service has arrested a Ukrainian spy in the Russian capital Moscow. The suspect is “a Ukrainian citizen, he was an agent of the SBU (Ukrainian Secret Service) and was ordered to collect data on military technology on Russian territory in the spring of 2022,” state news agency Tass reported on Wednesday. A Moscow court ordered the man to be held in custody until the end of November.

Since the outbreak of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in February, the officially reported number of espionage cases in the country has increased significantly.

Japanese consul expelled from the country
Only on Monday did Russian authorities in the Far East first arrest the Japanese consul in Vladivostok for alleged espionage activities and then expel him, sparking a diplomatic scandal. In late August, a Ukrainian citizen was arrested on suspicion of espionage.

Russians are also targeted by their own authorities
In addition, numerous Russians have been targeted by their own law enforcement agencies. Russian justice is investigating a number of cases of alleged high treason. The legislation – and also the jurisprudence – has been tightened up enormously.#

In early September, a Moscow court sentenced former journalist Ivan Safronov to 22 years in prison for high treason in a controversial espionage trial. This is the highest penalty imposed in Russia for this crime after the end of the Soviet Union.
