Military build-up – US promises 8 more multiple rocket launchers to Kiev

Date:

The US government has announced additional arms deliveries to Ukraine worth 1.14 billion euros. The pack is intended to give Kiev 18 additional Himar-type multiple rocket launchers, which “Ukraine has used so effectively on the battlefield”. multiple rocket launchers allow Ukrainian forces to strike Russian targets further from the front line, while civilians in the troubled country receive help from France.

In addition, Ukraine will receive the associated ammunition, 150 armored vehicles and anti-drone systems, among other things, the Defense Ministry said. However, the weapons and systems must not come directly from US military stockpiles, but must first be purchased from industry for Ukraine. It concerns the medium and long-term equipment of the Ukrainian army.

This brings US military aid to Ukraine to a total equivalent of $16.9 billion since the start of Biden’s tenure, the Pentagon said. Most of the aid has been delivered since the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine began on February 24. Karine Jean-Pierre, spokeswoman for US President Biden, emphasized in the White House that the country would support Ukraine for as long as necessary.

Himar (see video of multiple missile launcher exercises above, ed.) is of great importance to Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in the summer about the weapons system: “For our country, the word ‘Himars’ has become almost synonymous with the word ‘justice’.”

1000 tons of donations from France
But the population can also look forward to donations: a ship carrying 1,000 tons of aid supplies for Ukraine left Marseille in southern France on Wednesday. On board are dozens of rescue vehicles, medicines and medical equipment, food and mobile relief bridges that will be taken to the Romanian port city of Constanta, from where the goods will be transported overland to Ukraine.

As French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said in Marseille, this is the largest French aid operation to Ukraine since the Russian invasion of the country. The relief supplies came from public and private donations. A large shipping company transports the goods with a car ferry.
