Plumes of smoke above a 200 meter long train in Spielfeld Friday just after midnight! A train loaded with coal caught fire at the station, the fire brigade was on duty for six hours!
Concerned ÖBB employees were greeted by three fire brigades (FF Spielfeld, Straß and Gersdorf) at Spielfeld train station around 1 a.m. on Friday: heavy smoke was already rising over the 200-meter-long train standing there.
Difficult job for firefighters
Due to the excavated overhead wires and the continuation of the operation at the station, the operation was not easy for the fire brigade. When they searched for the source of the fire, they found extremely high temperatures in two cars. These were loaded with coal. In addition, the Gamlitz fire brigade was called in: because of the poor water supply and because of their experience from a previous operation.
Finally, the fire brigade started to extinguish both cars. Here too there was another challenge: only by unloading the wagons could they be unloaded effectively. Therefore, the two wagons involved had to be removed and taken to Leibnitz to be emptied.
The mission ended at 7 a.m.
