In the St. Pölten area, a 52-year-old is said to have tried to kill his father with rat poison. The Lower Austrian was arrested and is in detention, reports Leopold Bien, spokesman for the public prosecutor of St. Pölten. Investigation conducted on suspicion of attempted murder. The suspect denied the charges. Expert advice should now yield further findings.
According to Bien, the elderly father of the 52-year-old was taken to hospital “with diffuse symptoms” a few days ago. At the clinic, remains of rat poison were found in the victim’s blood. Unintentional use of this drug — for example, accidentally or by mistake — “can be ruled out,” Bien told the APA.
Pre-trial detention for ‘urgent suspicion’
Suspicion soon turned with one of the victim’s sons, not least because of the motive. According to the spokesman for the authorities, there is a transfer agreement regarding the agricultural property, which stipulates that the 52-year-old must pay for his father’s living expenses. In addition, conflict situations have already occurred in the past, which are also registered.
Due to the “urgent suspicion”, according to Bien, the handcuffs clicked for the 52-year-old. Pre-trial detention has also been imposed.
Container with rat poison discovered
Containers with rat poison were found on the farm near St. Pölten. This “further defended the suspicion,” emphasized the spokesperson for the prosecution. An expert opinion must show whether the seized substance corresponds to that in the victim’s blood.
