Dragged from the car – the head of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant was kidnapped by the Russians

Date:

The head of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which has been occupied by Russian forces since March, Ihor Murashov, has been kidnapped from Ukraine by Moscow troops, according to information. The president of the operating company Enerhoatom, Petro Kotin, announced this on Saturday.

The general manager of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant was stopped in the street the day before by a Russian patrol on the site of the Enerhodar nuclear power plant and dragged from the car. He was taken blindfolded to an unknown location. There was initially no statement from the Russian side.

“There is no information about his fate,” Kotin told Telegram news channel. He accused Russia of nuclear terrorism against the power plant’s management and employees. Murashov, who bears primary responsibility for the safe operation and nuclear safety of the plant, must be released immediately. Kotin also called on the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, to campaign for Murashov’s release.

The power plant was shot over and over
The nuclear power plant was repeatedly shelled. Both the Russian occupying forces and the Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly warned of a possible nuclear incident with huge consequences for the whole of Europe. The IAEA is committed to prompt further talks on a ceasefire zone around the nuclear power plant.

According to the management, the Russian state company Rosatom, which manages the plant together with Russian units, is prepared to discuss the technical aspects of a protection zone.
