After the misogynistic stone attack on Austrian triathletes, the Jordanian embassy reported – and apologized with a trip to a “wonder of the world”.
The shock was deep for Sara Vilic and Tanja Stroschneider for a long time. As reported, the two professional triathletes were surrounded, attacked and even stoned by a group of misogynistic young men during swim practice for the Continental Cup in Aqaba, Jordan.
Thank goodness the red-white-red athletes escaped with the fright – except for a bruise on Strohschneider’s back. Still, it was a scandal. For which the Jordanian embassy apologized after the “Krone” report – with a nice gesture.
“They invited us to the wonder of the world temple city of Petra. It was brilliant,” explains Vilic from Carinthia, emphasizing: “They were so sorry. Of course we accept the apology.” And coach Willi Lilge emphasized: “99 percent of the people here are great. We would love to come back – only we will swim elsewhere.”
