A safari in South Africa’s Kruger National Park ended deadly for a tourist from Germany. The man was on his way to a lodge with three compatriots on Monday when they were stopped by three gunmen. When the tourists refused to get out of the car and locked the doors, an assailant opened fire.
He backed the car about 100 yards and hit a wall. The driver died at the scene of the crime. After the shots were fired, the assailants fled without taking anything.
South Africa, with about 60 million inhabitants, is a popular tourist destination precisely because of its many national parks. However, the country has a high crime rate.
Repeated attacks on tourists in South Africa
Tourists in South Africa are repeatedly attacked in their vehicles – even when driving on the highway in the suburbs of the city. The authorities recommend not to resist, as the perpetrators are usually armed.
