Heavy workload – Eurowings pilots will go on strike for 24 hours on Thursday

Date:

The pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) announced a 24-hour strike at Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings on Thursday. The labor dispute at the low-cost airline will last from midnight to 11:59 p.m., she announced on Tuesday.

Negotiations on the general collective labor agreement at Eurowings have failed. Ten rounds of talks would not have led to any significant rapprochement. The central requirement of the VC is to relieve the burden on employees, for example by shortening the maximum flight duty times and extending the rest periods.

“Work pressure has increased significantly”
No adjustments have been made since 2015. The workload has increased significantly, according to the union. “The employer regularly exhausts the working time of colleagues to the maximum allowed, this cannot be a permanent situation.”

We regret the restrictions on passengers. However, due to the lack of housing on the part of the management, there is currently only a possibility to enforce the requirements with a labor dispute.

VC demands the airline’s willingness to find a solution
“We are open to discussions on how we can achieve reasonable working hours for Eurowings employees in the long term,” said Marcel Gröls, chairman of VC Tariffs. Until now, however, it has not been possible to agree a common path with the employer. “It’s not enough to sit at the negotiating table — you also have to be willing to find a solution and not submit counter-claims as an offer.”
