Russian President Vladimir Putin has placed the occupied Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhya under Russian control. The Kremlin chief signed a corresponding decree in Moscow on Wednesday. Europe’s largest nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine has been occupied by its troops since March.
Russia’s TASS agency, also state-owned, reports that the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, is expected to visit Moscow in the coming days to discuss the situation at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
According to TASS, Grossi himself could drive to the nuclear power plant again. He also advocates a safety zone around the nuclear power plant.
The nuclear power plant is controlled by Russia, but is still managed by Ukrainian engineers.
The nuclear power plant is located in the Zaporizhzhya region of the same name, one of four areas annexed by Russia. In previous referendums on Russia’s accession, Ukraine and Western countries were labeled illegal. They do not recognize the annexation.
