A woman from Upper Styria invested 170,000 euros in supposedly lucrative transactions on a cyber trading platform. But when she was repeatedly delayed and no winnings were paid, the 53-year-old went to the police. Whether she will ever see her savings back is more than doubtful.
The woman, who comes from the Liezen district, came to know about a so-called cyber trading platform via Facebook. Assuming that she was investing in a lucrative money business here, the woman gave her contact details and transferred 250 euros of expenses to a German account number for the first time. As a result, so-called brokers have contacted the Styria several times via WhatsApp.
Friendly customer service offered help
Skilled communication even allowed the scammers to access their victim’s laptop “so they could help them with their money transfers”. They also offered her help with registrations and cryptocurrency transactions. The victim was defrauded with forged documents and emails about alleged profits.
„If we pay out, there are losses”
The 53-year-old, who constantly believed she would make a quick buck, agreed to all transfers to a UK account. However, when she wanted her winnings, the perpetrators again misled her victim, explaining that they found it difficult to cash out now and that this would lead to huge losses.
There were more requests for money. The 53-year-old became suspicious and reported the incident to Schladming Police Station.
