Bizkaia Metal’s employers describe the three new strike days as “irresponsible”

Date:

The Biscayan Federation of Metal Companies has called on unions to “move” so that an agreement can be reached. The unions, for their part, have reiterated that the negotiations are still “blocked” due to the lack of will of the employers and that if there is no agreement they will proceed jointly.

The Biscayan Federation of Metal Companies (FVEM) has described as “irresponsibility“The newly announced strikes in the sector to on 27 and 28 October and 2 November summoned, by CCOO, UGT and LAB as well as by ELA. Likewise, he has relayed to unions that “if they don’t move, it will be impossible to come to an agreement.”

All unions have gone on strike for three days to defend a decent employment contract for Metal de Bizkaia, but with separate appeals. On the one hand the majority unions at the negotiating table CCOO, LAB, UGT, ESK, CGT and CNT and on the other hand ELA. However, all agree that FEVEM does not have the will to negotiate to renew the agreement and that it is blocking the negotiations.

The general manager of FVEM, King Adolfcomplained this Thursday in statements to Europa Press that with these strikes it “will return to the same”, after the union side proposed in mid-May a platform with 17 points that “have not changed anything in five months” and that Metal de Bizkaia “on the worst level places compared to the state”.

Rey recalled that the employers have submitted three proposals as part of the negotiation process to verify their “call to negotiate”, but “it is in the same position as three years ago”. “If you don’t give me what I’m asking for, I’ll get pissed, negotiating is another thing,” he warned. In that sense, he indicated that in all those months the unions should be asked “what steps they have taken to reach an agreement”.

Likewise, the representative of the FVEM recalled that the October 13 a new meeting of the negotiating table is called and that it is the unions that should “move their platform”. “We are assessing our position and we will act in accordance with the strategy we decide. It is clear that if they do not move it is impossible to come to an agreement,” he assured.

At a press conference in Bilbao, the majority unions at the negotiating table this Thursday reiterated that: the negotiation is “blocked” due to the lack of will of the employers, and they have warned that if after the three new strike days there is “no agreement” in the agreement negotiations, they will continue to declare new phases of strike.

ELA, which until recently supported the joint calls with these unions, has kept the calls separate and it seems difficult for them to join the mobilizations. The divisions of these unions are due to their conflicting opinions about the approach to the negotiations and the duration of the strike to be called.
