Another environmental alarm in Southern Styria: Chlorine gas escaped in a therapy center in Leibnitz on Thursday. The result was a large-scale operation by the fire brigade, police and rescue services.
An automatic monitoring system sounded the alarm shortly before 7 a.m. on Thursday and called the fire brigade Leibnitz and Lebring for an operation at the Physiotherapeutic Institute.
There appeared to be a problem with a return flow from one of the centre’s pools. This allowed poisonous chlorine gas to escape.
Container sealed
Emergency services had to rescue a total of 40 people from the building and cordon off the area. The experts of the fire brigade managed to close the problematic containers again.
After about an hour and a half, the mission was over. No one was injured.
Just two days earlier, there had been an environmental alarm in the Leibnitz district when a yellow cloud lifted over a metalworking plant in Ragnitz near St. Georgen an der Stiefing.
