The incredible tragedy surrounding six-year-old Leon, who was found dead in the Kitzbüheler Ache near St. Johann in Tirol at the end of August, shocked all of Austria. Before the affected boy drowned in the floods, his father (37) had been attacked and knocked unconscious by an unknown perpetrator. Now the police have come up with a new detail: A glass bottle, said to be the murder weapon, was pinned to the crime scene.
It happened on August 28 around 4 a.m.: The 37-year-old father was walking with his six-year-old son Leon in a buggy along the so-called Redford Promenade in St. Johann in Tirol. According to the LKA, the time is not unusual. “The mentally retarded boy regularly suffered from sleep disorders,” said the then Tyrolean State Investigation Service
Collapsed unconscious after being attacked
Suddenly, an unknown person allegedly stalked the two from behind and pulled a bottle over the father’s head. “The victim then fell unconscious to the ground and remained lying,” the investigators said. At 5:20 a.m. a passerby found the man, who was still unconscious, and raised the alarm.
Crawled out of pram
Horrible: Six-year-old Leon, who years ago was diagnosed with an extremely rare genetic defect and would therefore have never been able to speak, was found dead a short time later on the sandbank of the nearby Kitzbüheler Ache. After attacking his father, he may have crawled out of the pram under his own power and fell into the water.
30,000 euros for crucial information
Since then, the criminal investigation has been ongoing. And the parents leave no stone unturned to find the culprit. They even offer 30,000 euros for crucial information. This processing takes place in close cooperation with the State Criminal Investigation Service of Tyrol, as they emphasize. Only recently did Papa Florian tell the “Krone” that he had observed a man for the crime.
Glass bottle as a murder weapon
On Friday, the State Criminal Investigation Service of Tyrol again issued a public call for witnesses. “A bottle was found at the crime scene, which according to current knowledge is the subject of the crime,” the investigators said. Anyone who made sightings that night or saw someone with a glass bottle marked “Pink Hugo” (see photo above) should contact the LKA Tirol.
