Pink Star Diamond Raises $58 Million at Auction

Date:

A pink diamond has been auctioned in Hong Kong for nearly $58 million (about $59 million). The Williamson Pink Star, weighing 11.15 carats, fetched the second highest price ever paid for a gemstone at auction. Among the diamonds, those with a pink color are the rarest and therefore the most sought-after on the market.

The Williamson Pink Star was the second largest pink diamond ever sold at auction. The auction house had expected a sale price of $21 million. The buyer from the US state of Florida paid more than twice as much.

In 2017, the CTF Pink Star diamond was auctioned for $71.2 million – the highest price ever for a gemstone.

A Williamson pink diamond was given to the recently deceased Queen Elizabeth II for her marriage in 1947.
