OECD report shows: – Austria pays 7360 euros per Ukrainian refugee

Date:

Austria is spending about 592 million euros this year on the reception of Ukrainian refugees. This corresponds to 7360 euros per person, according to the OECD report. By mid-September, nearly five million people had fled from Ukraine to OECD countries.

In addition to the EU countries, this also includes the US, Canada and Japan. The majority of Ukraine’s nearly five million men, women and children have fled to European countries, representatives of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) said Monday. A directive has been in force in the EU for several months, stating that the protection of refugees will initially last for a year. After that, it can be extended for another two years.

No asylum procedure necessary
This means that no asylum procedure is required. In addition, refugees from Ukraine are entitled to social benefits, education, housing and a work permit immediately upon arrival. According to the OECD, the majority of refugees made use of this temporary protection.

Germany and Poland bear half of the costs
The organization estimated on Monday that the costs for European countries in 2022 will be about 26.6 billion euros. It concerns costs for housing, education and health care. Together, Germany and Poland should bear almost half of the total costs. However, the highest expenditure per refugee is expected in Switzerland (13,453 euros), Belgium (12,626 euros) and Luxembourg (12,487 euros).

According to the OECD report, Austria spends about 592 million euros on the reception of Ukrainian refugees. That is an average of 7,360 euros per capita.
