Situation worsens – Caritas: Russian air strikes make aid more difficult

According to Caritas, the humanitarian situation in Ukraine is deteriorating. “One thing is clear: with further and increasing attacks, the need for aid is increasing enormously,” Caritas president Michael Landau said on Wednesday. Thousands of people are cut off from water and energy supplies, schools are closed and public transport has come to a standstill in many places. That makes providing aid more difficult, according to Caritas.

Caritas demanded that the safety of, in particular, the employees of humanitarian aid organizations must be guaranteed. “In the current situation, it is especially important to ensure that aid workers have safe access to the people in the affected areas so that they can continue to provide urgently needed life-saving aid. Relief supplies must continue to reach the people,” added Andreas Knapp, secretary General of Caritas, please.

30 percent of power plants damaged
Russia responded with heavy air strikes to the destruction of the Kerch Bridge, which connects Crimea with Russia, on Saturday. Russian rocket attacks on numerous cities across Ukraine over the past two days have damaged civilian facilities and about 30 percent of the country’s energy supplies, according to Ukrainian sources.
