Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plan to meet at lunchtime on Thursday in the Kazakh capital Astana.
According to an official of the presidential office of the German news agency, it is not clear whether the two heads of state will comment.
The meeting is scheduled for 12:30 PM (CEST) on the sidelines of the Summit of the Conference on Cooperation and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) (4:30 PM local time).
The NATO country Turkey maintains good relations with Moscow, but also with Ukraine. The Foreign Ministry in Ankara strongly criticized Russia’s illegal annexations in Ukraine (see video above). In the past, the Turkish government and its leader Erdogan have repeatedly called for the inviolability of Ukraine’s borders and a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
According to Turkish state news agency Anadolu Ajansi, 11 heads of state and government are expected to attend the summit in Astana.
