Year-on-year inflation in the United States drops to 8.2% in September 2022

The inflation from United States has returned to valleys in Septemberfor the third consecutive month, and has year-over-year rate of 8.2%, one-tenth less than in August, according to data released Thursday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The multi-year data also indicate that the Underlying inflationwhich measures consumer price increases excluding food and energy, rose by 6.6%, three tenths more than in August and seven more than in July.

Compared to August, consumer prices have increased by four-tenths, after rising slightly in that month. For its part, the energy price index was 19.8% in the twelve months ending in September, compared to 23.8% in August, and the food price index ended at 11.2%.

In the monthly comparison, the increase in September was boosted by the rise in housing, food and medical prices, although this was offset by the 4.9% drop in gasoline.

In this way, inflation in the US remains high despite the rate hikes by the Federal Reserve (Fed), which decided at its last meeting in September to increase it by 0.75 points for the fifth time since March. confirmation of the direction taken months ago to lower prices.

In June, inflation reached its 40-year high of 9.1%, though it started to decline to 8.5% in July. Despite annual inflation remaining high, the decline in annual inflation in recent months has given a slight respite to the U.S. economy, which plunged into what experts believe was a technical recession in late July, with two-quarters of the declines of the domestic product were crudely chained.
