In the Kherson region, the Russian occupiers advised the population to emigrate to Russia. The reason is the Ukrainian army’s counter-offensive, which is said to have recaptured more than 600 cities in the past month.
Civilians in the Kherson region have to flee. For their own safety, they are advised to travel to Russia, Moscow-appointed head of government Kirill Stremoussow wrote on Telegram on Friday. Along with Zaporizhzhya, Luhansk and Donetsk, Kherson is one of four Ukrainian regions illegally annexed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in late September.
It is located opposite the Crimean peninsula and is therefore of particular strategic importance. Now Ukrainian forces could take back the area to the south, observers reported. In recent weeks, Kiev has already reported having recaptured 75 villages in Kherson. It is said that there are 600 in the whole country.
Recapture next week?
The British newspaper “Financial Times” expects Ukrainian soldiers to be able to advance towards the Dnipro River in the coming week. In a video address to the nation, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said: “By defeating this enemy, we will answer all the enemies that invade Ukraine. It will be a victory for all our people, it will be a victory for the armed forces of Ukraine.” The enemy Russia can attack the cities, “but never our dignity”.
Meanwhile, as reported, Russian troops were advancing towards the villages of Opytne and Ivanhrad south of the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut. That is the estimate of the Ministry of Defense in London. Bakhmut could be the prelude to an attack on the areas around Kramatorsk and Slowyansk.
