Stellantis Zaragoza celebrates its 40th birthday with the award of a new model

Date:

Stellaantis Zaragoza has received a new model with electrified versions, which is part of the automotive group’s industrial plan and also included in the incentive program awarded by the government of Spain
within the framework of the PERTE VEC Plan.

Stellantis Zaragoza celebrates its 40th anniversary which coincides with the announcement of the arrival of the new model, whose price is a response “to the high level of quality, competitiveness and social climate of the factory”. As stated by Stellaantis management, it is “another step in the factory’s commitment to sustainability”. The announcement was made during the factory’s 40th anniversary events, in the presence of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism,
Kings Maroto and with the President of the Government of Aragon,
Javier Lamban.

For the director of the Stellantis factory in Zaragoza, José Luis Alonso Mosquera, “We are celebrating our 40th anniversary in the best possible way. When in 1982 the first Corsa revolutionized
aesthetics and performance of its segment and kicking off these facilities, today, four decades and more than 14 million vehicles produced after the Opel and Citroën brands, we are proud to announce that we will be producing a new model with electrified versions«. in his speech
Alonzo Mosquera has stated that «between these two milestones, this plant has become a motor for the economy of Aragon and a great technological benchmark in the Spanish automotive industry and in the Stellantis group. Some achievements that would not have been possible without the commitment of all the people who have worked and work in these facilities.

In
the fall of 1982, the Zaragoza factory dressed up for a very special occasion, culminating in years of intensive work. On November 5 of that year, production began on a model, the Opel Corsa, which has become an automotive icon.

From the first steps with
a city car like the Opel CorsaThe assembly lines soon included vehicles from other brands, such as compact cars such as the Kadett or the Astra, coupes with a sporting vocation, such as the Tigra, minibuses such as the Meriva, commercial vehicles such as the Combo or SUVs such as the Mokka, or the Opel. Crossland and Citroën C3 Aircross, with which Opel joined Groupe PSA in 2017.

With the sixth generation of the Opel Corsa, industrially launched at the end of 2019, electrification reached the Zaragoza plant, marking a new phase in the center’s history.
The Opel Corsa-e, produced exclusively in Zaragoza has brought a technological modernization that has opened the factory to the reality of Factory 4.0. During these years, several initiatives supported by the government of Aragon have been launched, including the Battery Assembly Workshop.

the battery workshop,
which opened in 2021, the plant already part of the Stellantis Group, assembles the batteries for the Opel Corsa-e and Citroën ë-C4, produced in Madrid. It has become a reference within Stellantis for the adoption of new computer systems, for the joint management of production, logistics and maintenance and for the synergies in its daily work with the Madrid Center.

In addition to the production of electric cars, the Stellantis plant in Zaragoza stands out for its commitment to renewable energy and environmentally friendly production. Currently,
It has a solar installation for its own consumption which covers one third of the plant’s electricity consumption. Installation of photovoltaic panels and wind stations will soon continue, with the aim of meeting 80% of the plant’s electricity needs by 2024.
