SsangYong Korando, a real SUV from 19,900 euros, with good behavior on asphalt and large capacity as an all-terrain vehicle

The fourth generation of the new Korando now has a more dynamic exterior, an interior with a good finish and a very complete standard equipment, making it an attractive alternative in the segment with a very balanced price-product ratio. In addition, this new generation of South Korean SUV also offers a spacious interior, new driver assistance systems and a high level of connectivity and technology.

The new SsangYong Korando comes with an efficient mechanical array consisting of two engines: a 1.5-litre GDI turbo petrol and a 1.6-litre turbo diesel. The petrol GDI Turbo has a displacement of 1,497 cm3 and a maximum power of 163 hp. The diesel engine, for its part, with a displacement of 1,597 cm3, delivers a power of 136 horses. Depending on the version, both engines can be optionally equipped with a 6-speed automatic gearbox with paddles on the steering wheel, or a 6-speed manual gearbox. Like its predecessor, the new Korando is offered as standard with front-wheel drive and can optionally be equipped with four-wheel drive, which can be connected to both engines depending on the trim. The 100% electric version of the Korando will come in 2023 with a 190 hp engine, automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The battery has a capacity of 61.5 kWh and an approved range of 339 kilometers.

The exterior design of the new Korando remains faithful to the style of the brand’s latest releases, with a striking grille and new front and rear light clusters, as well as marked wheel arches and side ribs that clearly identify it as an SUV. SsangYong has placed special emphasis on the fact that this new generation of the Korando not only adapts the design to European tastes, but also the driving sensations, especially in terms of suspension, steering and adjustment of the whole.

The luggage space ranges from 551 liters with the rear seat backs in the upright position, to 1,248 liters when fully folded, providing a completely flat loading surface.

Quality and interior design are other of the most notable improvements of the new Korando. The spacious passenger compartment shows a very technological aspect, with a command post oriented towards the driver, highlighting the central screen with a diameter of 8 inches linked to the audio system with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. Optionally, it has a digital instrument panel dominated by a 10.25-inch color LCD that provides a multitude of useful information for the driver, including operating the safety assistants of the SASS active safety assistance package.

Among the standard equipment of the Line version of access to the range linked only to the petrol engine, all the preventive safety systems stand out under the name SsangYong SASS, 6 airbags (front, front side and curtain), cruise control , the tire pressure sensor, the electric, heated and electric folding mirrors, the multifunctional leather steering wheel, the manual climate control, the light and rain sensors and the daytime running lights, position lights, brake lights and interior lighting type LED. The price of this Korando with Line finish coupled with the 163 hp 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine and the manual 6-speed gearbox is 19,900 euros (with promotion discounts).

The new Urban trim adds the audio system with an 8-inch screen, a rear view camera and Android Auto Apple Car Play connectivity, the dual-zone automatic climate control with air ionizer, the double-deck trunk, the LED front fog lights, the crystal-tinted tails and roof rails. In addition, it can be associated with both the aforementioned manual gearbox and the 6-speed automatic gearbox with steering wheel paddles.

The next trim in the new Korando range is called Premium, and includes the 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, 18-inch wheels, cloth and leatherette seats and one-touch windshields. This third version, with the petrol engine and manual gearbox, is priced in euros and with the 1.6 turbo diesel engine – also with a manual gearbox – in euros.
