A 15-year-old student fell Friday morning at work in Kindberg in Upper Styria in the Mürz. Colleagues from work were able to rescue the unconscious youngster from the water. His condition is critical.
The boy was busy on Friday morning with maintenance work on a small hydroelectric power station in Kindberg near Angerweg. According to the police, he is an apprentice at a steel and vehicle construction company. The 15-year-old would loosen screws at a height of about two meters. Two colleagues, aged 43 and 60, were nearby but had no visual contact.
When the 15-year-old suddenly stopped talking to his colleagues, they looked at him – and saw the boy floating unconscious in the Mürz reservoir. The 43-year-old immediately jumped into the icy water. The 60-year-old alerted the emergency services.
19 firefighters were able to save boys
His colleague was able to pull the young man onto a gravel bank and began resuscitating him. Two police officers, a doctor and another employee came to the rescue. Together they managed to get the student out of the water. It took 19 comrades from the Kindberg Fire Department and a ladder to get him off the riverbed.
After first aid, the 15-year-old was taken to the LKH Leoben by the A&E doctor. He is currently being treated in intensive care there. According to the police, his health can be described as “critical” on Friday evening. The investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
