On Friday, the Ehrwald mountain rescue service in Tyrol had to come to the aid of a cyclist (41) who had overestimated himself during a cycling tour in the border area with Bavaria. He found himself on a snowy road and was so exhausted that he could go no further.
The 41-year-old German actually wanted to cycle from Mittenwald in Bavaria via Garmisch to Ehrwalder Alm and from there cycle back to Mittenwald via the Gaistal between Ehrwald and Leutasch. But he did not get that far: shortly before 5 p.m. the man was in the Gaistal, about 100 meters from the Gaistal valley station at about 1,540 meters above sea level.
Exhausted cyclist called mountain rescue
According to police, there was snow and the man was poorly rested and exhausted. Because he could not get any further, he made an emergency call. Ehrwald’s mountain rescue team then left and approached the cyclist. He was rescued unharmed and taken to the valley.
