California police have arrested a suspected serial killer suspected of shooting five people in just two and a half months this summer alone. Another victim was killed last year.
Wesley Brownlee, 43, was arrested in the town of Stockton while hunting for another victim, police said Saturday morning (local time).
Police apparently ‘avoided another murder’
“He was killing,” Police Commissioner Stanley McFadden said of the man, who was armed and masked when he was arrested. “We are confident that we have prevented another murder.”
Five men were shot dead near Stockton between July 8 and September 27; the murders showed some parallels. In the city of Oakland, 50 kilometers away, another man was killed in April last year.
A woman survived an attack that, according to police, was also carried out by the suspect. Investigators are still looking for a motive for the crime.
