BBVA Research has revised Basque GDP growth downward to 0.3% in 2023, from 1.1% in its previous estimate in August, and maintains it at 3.5% in 2022. 2023.
These forecasts are lower than those of the Basque government, which estimates that the Basque economy will grow by 4.3% this year and 2.1% next year.
In a statement, it said it has revised its statewide growth forecast upwards by 0.3-tenths this year, which will increase Spain’s GDP by 4.4%, but its forecast for the year 2023. stagnation in tourism, lower confidence and the slowdown in the management of the Next Generation EU (NGEU) funds are the main reasons for this downward revision for the following year.
Specifically, BBVA Research explained that the growth forecast for Spain for 2022 has been revised upwards thanks to greater dynamism in tourism than expected a quarter ago.
In its overall analysis, BBVA Research points out that the progress made in the summer will be followed by a stagnation in the third quarter and a slowdown in activity, something already reflected in the card spending data, the growth of which was relevant over the period from July to September.
Experts at BBVA Research predict that the economy is “virtually stagnant due to a loss of purchasing power”.
