It’s more of an educational and less dogmatic proposition than a case in point.

Last year, bishops blamed the drop on a pandemic. They explain that although “the current course started in better conditions than the previous one, the difficulties continued with successive waves of infections until the second quarter.” Despite the fall, the church record assesses “very positively the fact that more than three million male and female students study religion weekly as a freely chosen subject” and emphasizes that “these are important figures to consider within a diverse society. The distribution of students of religion is one of the concerns of bishops. The rates vary significantly between different school networks, minimum public, majority, maximums in agreement and intermediate point in particular, as well as between stages.

There are more students in state centers who do not take the subject than those who study: an average of 48% study religion, a maximum of 52% in elementary and a minimum of 37.6% in undergraduate. The decline in religion students at these centers has been noticeable over 20 years: they increased from 79.4% of subject students in the 2001-2002 academic year to the current 48%. In a privately owned but publicly funded school, an agreed-upon school, ten to nine students are enrolled in religion, pretty much the same at all levels. Finally, individuals have 75% registered in the entity without a concert.

Gradually, elementary school is where most students are in religion and from there they drop out. At ESO, 62% of the elementary course becomes 59% and up to 48% of the undergraduate, the lowest.
