Stricter rules – GTI meeting: Is there one-way traffic around the Faakermeer?

Date:

Before the next stream of tuning fans can be expected in Carinthia in 2023, the residents want even stricter rules.

Rubber, rubber surpluses, intentional ignitions and other noise nuisance are no longer without consequences. This has been demonstrated by the two most recent GTI meetings. Because the 40th amendment to the Motor Vehicles Act gives the police more options to intervene.

Annoying noise pollution
And so did the officials. Despite this amendment to the law, which has been in force since May, local residents continue to complain about nuisance noise at the tuning events, which have now taken place several times. At an information evening in Drobollach, to which provincial councilor Sebastian Schuschnig and village councilor Gerald Dobernig of Villach were invited, it became clear that especially the residents of Faaker See hinder hours-long traffic jams.

General one-way arrangement
They demand a general one way arrangement around the lake in the summer months or at the very least a one way arrangement between Egg and the Billa market. “Such a one-way street could only apply on Friday and Saturday, a car-free day would also be conceivable – there are many possibilities. We hope that one is implemented,” says Dobernig. Schuschnig: “You must not forget: closures mean a shift in traffic, no real solution. We want to discuss the proposals with the authorities and, if possible, implement them.”
