At around 10:15 pm, the nursing staff of a retirement home in Steindorf am Ossiacher See noticed that the 80-year-old woman was missing. A search was immediately launched, but unfortunately it was negative due to lack of clues. The police helicopter “Libelle Flir”, the dog handlers of the police, the rescue dog brigade, the mountain rescue service of Villach and the volunteer fire brigade of Bodensdorf continued the search for the pensioner by boat on Saturday morning.
Found dead in ravine
At around noon, the woman was found lying in the gorge of the Steindorfer Bach. “She fell about 80 meters into the impassable, steep terrain and suffered fatal injuries in the process. The only thing that could be determined was that the woman was dead,” the Bodensdorf police said.
The rescue of the body was carried out by the Villach mountain rescue service, but it proved to be difficult due to the steep terrain.
