“This is a robbery, keep calm!” These words were written on a piece of paper that the gun robber placed on the counter in the hypo. He escaped with loot. Now he is being hunted by the Salzburg police.
The bank robber had prepared: As the “Krone” learned, the armed perpetrator, masked with an FFP2 mask, placed a handwritten note on the bank counter during the robbery at the Hypo branch on Residenzplatz on Thursday. “This is a robbery, keep calm,” it read. In addition, the robber demanded money in the Austrian dialect when he threatened the bank employee with a gun.
As reported, the crime took place around 2:40 PM – and in the heart of Salzburg’s Old Town. The robber was able to flee with the loot – probably on foot. An initial search was unsuccessful. The police have published police photos: “We have already received some information,” said Irene Stauffer of the management when asked. The Salzburg police are now intensifying the search for the approximately 1.85 meter tall unknown.
Six robberies in one month
The series of robberies in Salzburg continues with the renewed robbery of a bank: since September 26, six robberies have taken place – within a month. So far, two gas stations, two banks, a supermarket and a hotel have become the crime scene. Only in one case were the police able to arrest a suspect: an Austrian (33) who is said to have recently attacked the Volksbank branch next to the pebble.
