Russian magnate: – Superyacht sails past sanctions

Date:

One of his yachts has already been seized due to Russian sanctions. Now the oligarch Alexei Mordashov is saving his “Nord” to South Africa.

His 65-meter-long “Lady M” was seized by Italian authorities in March. But that shouldn’t happen to his $500 million superyacht: First, Russian tycoon Alexei Mordashov had his 142-meter “Nord” brought to Hong Kong to protect it from state entry, as Hong Kong refuses to let others unilaterally sanctions implementation imposed on countries.

Now the mega yacht is on its way to South Africa. The country has abstained from condemning Russia’s attack on Ukraine in the United Nations and rejects sanctions.

Mordashov manages to avoid severe sanctions at the last minute: when he was threatened with sanctions because of the war in Ukraine, the major shareholder of the German tourism group Tui immediately transferred his shares to his wife.
