The ride on a mountain bike or e-bike was fatal for three Tyroleans (29, 46 and 60) in Mutters Scharnitz and Umhausen on Sunday. All three sustained injuries, some seriously. They were rescued by the ambulance helicopter.
The first accident happened around 1 p.m. In the bike park of the Muttereralm Bergbahnen, a local (29) rode a mountain bike on the single trail “The Chainless One”. “Due to a driving error, he collided head-on with a tree in an S chicane,” the director said. The 29-year-old suffered serious injuries to his left shoulder. He made an emergency call and was flown by the emergency doctor’s helicopter to the Innsbruck clinic.
Fell on forest road
The second accident happened at 2.30pm. In the municipality of Scharnitz, a local (46) rode an e-bike in the Hochwald area on the forest road from the Isertalhütte towards the Scharnitzer Alm. “There was a fall for reasons that are still unclear.” -year-old also suffered serious injuries to his right thigh. He also made a distress call and was flown to Hall Hospital by helicopter “Martin 2”.
Rolling over during braking manoeuvres
The third accident happened at 4.30 pm. A local (60) rode his mountain bike from Umhausen to the Kleinhoarlachalm. On the descent on the forest path in the Larstigalm area, a car approached the 60-year-old. “When braking, the man fell, rolled over and sustained injuries to his spine and chest.” Other motorcyclists provided first aid. Finally, the injured man was flown to the Innsbruck clinic by helicopter “Martin 2”.
