After an argument, Michael Ramirez fled his uncle’s home in Rancho Cordova, California, in May 2020. The 15-year-old disappeared without a trace for more than two years until he returned home in March of this year. Meanwhile, he was hiding with 61-year-old teacher Holga Castillo Olivares. The teacher now has to go to court for kidnapping.
The Waldorf school teacher was arrested for taking Michael in. The student was a friend of her daughter. The 61-year-old was taken away from class at her Alice Briney Waldorf School.
“You’re thinking of the worst!”
A judge ruled that the two-year stay was a kidnapping. After all, the police had questioned Olivares several times, according to Michael’s aunt Katte Smith. “You can’t just hide someone’s child and think that’s okay,” Smith said. The time without her cousin was hard to bear: “You think the worst. You think the worst.”
The runaway woman’s aunt revealed that she and her husband were “delighted” when they learned of the arrest: “This woman stole from us for two years with Michael. Now we get justice!”
The educator now awaits her trial. She is due to appear in court on Monday. It is not known whether she has acknowledged the allegations. Her lawyers did not provide any further information.
