In connection with the supermarket that burned down in Vienna-Floridsdorf last weekend, more and more indications indicate that the fire was not aimed at the store, but at the car. The car that was set on fire outside the supermarket was reported stolen on September 27.
Possibly the men who were last in the vehicle just wanted to get off the car. According to witnesses, it was doused with a flammable liquid and set on fire.
Some 100,000 euros damage
However, the flames spread to the supermarket, which burned down. The damage would amount to several 100,000 euros. The investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing. The 21-year-old suspect has since been arrested. He has – related to the car – confessed to the arson.
A second possible accomplice was investigated, he was initially free, but was remanded in custody after an arrest warrant. He is interrogated the same day.
Wanted to get off the car
Because cocaine and cannabis and illegal weapons were found during a search of the home of the 21-year-old, the car is said to have been used for drug deals. Once it had served its purpose, it was possible that the stolen car wanted to disappear from the scene so as not to be associated with the ad. This could indicate that the number plates were removed from the car before it was ‘set on fire’.
