Manager shot – grin killer of New York: police have found manifesto

The suspected murderer of the head of American insurer United Healthcare was arrested on Monday. According to the police, Luigi Mangione (26) was carrying a weapon with a silencer, the type of which matched the murder weapon. The investigators also found a violent manifesto on him.

Mangione, who in addition to the weapon also had fake identification with him, has now been charged with murder in Manhattan, among other places, American media report. In a handwritten document found on his person, he accuses insurance companies of profiteering and threatens violence: “These parasites deserve it. (…) It had to be done.”

The suspect remains silent about the accusations
Charges were also filed against him in Blair County, Pennsylvania for, among other things, illegal gun possession. He was denied bail. The 26-year-old was transferred to a detention center that night. Until now he has remained silent about the accusations.

McDonald’s employees recognized the man
According to investigators, the man was discovered in a fast-food restaurant in the city of Altoona, Pennsylvania, about a five-hour drive from the New York metropolitan area. An employee of the fast food restaurant recognized him from police photos and called the police.

Authorities have been searching since Wednesday for a man who shot the head of billion-dollar U.S. insurer United Healthcare, Brian Thompson, near Times Square in New York. The 50-year-old died in hospital from his injuries. United Health, the parent company of United Healthcare, declined to comment on the current events.

The 26-year-old’s family said on social media after the arrest that they were “shocked and devastated”. According to American media, there was initially no communication from a lawyer.
